Pittsburgh Magazine Wins 4 Golden Quill Awards
The Press Club of Western Pennsylvania honors local journalists in its 59th annual awards.

Pittsburgh Magazine picked up four top writing awards in Division 4 at the 59th annual Golden Quill Awards on Tuesday night.
In the Lifestyle category, Managing Editor Sean Collier, HOME Editor Jessica Sinichak and former intern and contributor Kaitlyn Nuebel won for their stories “Pittsburgh on 4 Paws,” “Lifeline for Pets,” “This Way to the Dog Wash,” and “Big Days Out With Your Furry Friend.” These stories appeared in the February 2022 print edition.
Collier also won in the Criticism category for a trio of movie reviews “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “Nope” and “Blonde.”
Former digital reporter Ollie Gratzinger, who now works for The New York Times, won in the Education category for “A New Era of Schooling.”
And former contributor Adam Smeltz won in the category of Enterprise/Investigative for his story “We Need to Talk About the Bathrooms.”
Other finalists included Pittsburgh Magazine Creative Director Huck Beard and contributors Mark Houser, Kellie B. Gormly, Maria Sciullo and Grant Segall. Collier also was a finalist in the Columns/Blogs category.
The Quills, sponsored by the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania, celebrates and recognizes excellence in print, broadcast, photography, design illustration and online journalism in Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio and Northern West Virginia. The winners were chosen from among more than 1,000 entries, which were judged by the Los Angeles Press Club.
Among special awards, Monsignor Thomas J. McSweeney, former director of the Diocese of Erie Communications Office and former executive editor of Faith magazine, and the Pittsburgh Jewish Chronicle both received Service to Journalism Awards. Deborah L. Acklin, former president and CEO of WQED Multimedia, was honored with the President’s Award.
