As the chart-topping hit by Michael Sembello explained, she’s “just a steel town girl on a Saturday night.” How do you know that Alex (Jennifer Beals) is a real Pittsburgher? Well, she’s a welder in a steel mill — when she’s not a “maniac on the floor” as a local cabaret dancer. Moreover, she takes the Duquesne Incline home from work.

The Incline gets a glamour shot in the film, along with other local landmarks, including the former Carnegie Institute on Forbes Avenue standing in for the fictional Pittsburgh Dance and Repertory Company. “Flashdance” fans got some good news recently: After a nearly 20-year hiatus, the film’s director, Adrian Lyne, stepped behind the camera once again to helm the Hulu thriller “Deep Water,” starring Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas.

“FLASHDANCE” is streaming on Paramount+.
