On March 17, Sheweta Gupta had 1,500 bottles of beer and wine delivered to her door.

She wasn’t hosting an epic St. Patrick’s Day party but stocking the shelves of her new Shadyside business.

P’Vino, a boutique beer and wine shop at 5724 Ellsworth Ave., sells and offers samples of vintage wines and new varieties from around the globe, including Greece, Spain and Japan, along with craft brews. The store is in its soft opening phase this week, so check social media for operating hours

Gupta, who also runs Jitters Cafe on nearby Walnut Street with her husband Ravi, works with a team of vendors specializing in rare libations. P’Vino sells 130 types of wine and 150 brands of beer in cans and bottles. Many labels in the lineup cannot be found in local state stores, bars or restaurants.

There is seating for 30 inside the space, a former dry cleaners located next to Fuel On Convenience Store. Gupta plans to host tastings, wine-and-cheese pairings and other events with a rotating line-up of food trucks providing grub to shoppers. This spring, customers will be able to kick back on the colorful patio, which overlooks P’Vino’s parking lot, a rarity for the Shadyside area.

Gupta, a lawyer by trade, was inspired to open P’Vino by her entrepreneurial husband, who launched Jitters Cafe 27 years ago. Through the two businesses, she gets to give folks both a liquid wake-up call and a nightcap.

“We live in the neighborhood,” Gupta says. “Like Jitters, we want P’Vino to be a gathering place for the community.”
