Go Medieval on Your Stomach at Sheetz

The gas station chain teamed up with First We Feast, the brand behind “Hot Ones,” on a trio of new menu items.

Last Friday night, there was a guy swallowing swords outside of Sheetz in Cranberry.

Deadly weapons aren’t on the new menu — just some deliciously bad-for-you food including a Pizza Bagel Bunz Burger, Lumber Jack Breakfast Sandwich and Tater Bomb Nachos.

The limited-time items are part of a collaboration between Sheetz and First We Feast, the online food-culture magazine and digital media studio behind “Hot Ones,” a YouTube show that features host Sean Evans interviewing celebrities as they eat progressively hotter wings.

To celebrate, the suburban gas station parking lot was transformed into a medieval banquet hall filled with local influencers and content creators — and a hungry magazine food editor. This was crazier than a June’s Glizzy Gala.

Presiding over the gluttonous realm was Adam Richman, television host, actor, cook and former host of “Man v. Food.” During the Travel Channel show’s first season in 2008, Richman visited Primanti Bros. and Quaker Steak & Lube.

Now he’s hosting “Fuel Stop Feast,” a three-part mini-series that pits chefs Christian Alquiza and Ian Fujimoto against each other in a series of food battles that turned into Sheetz offerings.

The Lumberjack Breakfast Sandwich features sausage, bacon, eggs and a honey bun stacked between crispy waffles; The Pizza Bagel Bunz Burger, swaps pizza bagels for traditional buns; and the Tater Bomb Nachos are spuds piled with chicken strips, peppers, onions, nacho cheese and crispy jalapeños and potato chips.

Loyal subjects of “Hot Ones” can test their mettle locally at Pittsburgh’s Rivers of Fire Oct. 9-10. Now in its second year, the hot sauce festival will have 22 vendors, a hot pepper-eating contest, a scavenger hunt, a fire and aerial show by Iron City Circus Arts, food trucks, pinball and ice baths to benefit Animal Friends for Veterans.
