DANCE ON THE GO, LLC

“As long as I’m breathing, there will be new opportunities.” 

Carol A. Fisher came to entrepreneurship later in life, but she isn’t treating age as a deadline. At 72, the Pittsburgh line dance instructor is building Dance on the Go, LLC, a business she established in 2024 after years of teaching at senior centers. Now, she is focused on taking soul line dancing into workplaces, community organizations, health fairs, festivals and other gatherings.

“As a new business owner, I’d have to describe myself as an ever-learning participant in the world of business,” Fisher said. “Integrity, diligence and a desire to succeed have been my driving force.”

That willingness to learn has included knowing when to change direction. After individual classes came and went, Fisher pivoted Dance on the Go in 2026 to focus on businesses and organizations. The company has since developed a partnership with Pittsburgh Public Schools and regular classes with the Wilkinsburg Family Support Center and Steel Valley Senior Center in Clairton. Fisher also formed a new group, Steel Got It, earlier this year.

“My direction has shifted,” she said. “I think it’s because I no longer choose to settle for what is clearly not my target demographic. The single class where people may or may not show up will not fuel a business.”

Along the way, Fisher has found guidance from an unexpected source: younger mentors who helped her navigate a new phase of her professional life. She also has received certificates of appreciation for participating as an instructor at the annual Pittsburgh Line Dance Convention. Outside her business, she volunteers as a line dance instructor at a Pittsburgh senior center.

“Since I embarked on my dancing career late in life, I’m constantly reminded that it’s truly never too late,” Fisher said. “As long as I’m breathing, there will be new opportunities and adventures to experience.”

Fisher hopes to increase Dance on the Go’s visibility and ultimately build a business she can leave as a legacy. Her advice for other women pursuing their own goals reflects the persistence behind that ambition: “Keep trying. If you receive a rejection one, two, three, or a whole bunch of times, don’t stop.”
