Women & Business Profile: Jessica L. Miller
"This city and its community will always have my heart."
Jessica L. Miller
Schneider Downs & Co., Inc.
The best advice Jessica L. Miller ever received was the importance of taking the time to truly get to know everyone she met. “Building genuine relationships has been invaluable throughout my career, reminding me that success is often driven as much by people and relationships as it is by hard work and expertise,” she says.
Miller joined Schneider Downs — a professional services and consulting firm — in 2013 as a staff associate. Over the past 13 years, she has played a key role in building and growing the firm’s Risk Advisory Services Financial Services practice and is now its director. She primarily helps financial services organizations strengthen their governance, enhance internal controls and proactively manage regulatory and operational risks.
Miller’s leadership reflects her strong belief in the value of collaboration and centers on building trust, developing talent and fostering an environment where people can thrive. She encourages women to “be confident in what you bring to the table, stay curious and never stop learning. Growth comes from being willing to stretch yourself, even when it feels uncomfortable.”
Miller takes that advice, too. While she earned her undergraduate degree in accounting and accounting information systems from Duquesne University in 2009, she never stopped learning from those around her. She encourages women to seek mentors and build robust networks of people who are both supportive and willing to challenge them. They should also look for opportunities to mentor others along the way. (She lives out that advice, too.)
The PA Bankers Association recognized those values in Miller in 2025 with its Champion for Women award.
Miller considers herself “a Pittsburgh girl through and through. This city and its community will always have my heart.” In turn, she gives her heart to organizations such as Beverly’s Birthdays and the Mid-Atlantic Mothers’ Milk Bank and has served on both boards.
She takes particular pride in being part of the Children’s Trust of UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation. She is a strong advocate for its annual Walk for Children’s, which brings together patients, families, employees and community members to raise funds for local pediatric care.
Jessica Miller will be honored at the Women & Business Awards event on May 19. This vibrant evening features honoree spotlights, a keynote presentation, meaningful networking opportunities and support for an incredible local nonprofit partner.
