After 87 years in business, a Downtown designer clothing store is closing its doors.

Larrimor’s, a family-owned fashion institution since 1939, is holding a going-out-of-business sale starting at 9 a.m. on Nov. 4 and will continue until the final item is sold. The store, at 249 Fifth Ave., will close no later than the end of December. The site will be closed Nov. 1-3 so employees can mark down the merchandise.

“This decision marks the end of an important chapter for our family, but we are incredibly grateful for the customers, employees, designers and community members who have made Larrimor’s what it is today,” co-owner Tom Michael said in a press release. “We hope this final sale gives our customers an opportunity to find something special while also giving us a chance to say thank you.”

Everything in the store is included in the sale, with no exclusions. Men’s suits, sport coats, dress shirts, sportswear and shoes, and women’s clothing, outerwear, handbags and fine jewelry are all marked 20% to 75% off, from designers including Zegna, Canali, Isaia, Peter Millar, Magnanni, L’Agence, Akris, Eileen Fisher, Staud and Hammitt. New fall and winter merchandise still arriving will go directly to the sale floor. All store fixtures are also for sale and all sales are final.

Validated parking is available at the 3 PNC Plaza, Oliver and K&L Gates Center garages.

Harry Slesinger and Larry Morris opened Larrimor’s in a 1,000-square-foot storefront in the Union Trust Building. In 2006, Esquire magazine named the third-generation family store a “Best of Class” retailer, the only Pittsburgh store to receive the honor. In 2010, after more than seven decades in the Union Trust Building, Larrimor’s moved to its current home at One PNC Plaza.

“We have been honored to help dress so many Pittsburgh families, often three generations of the same family,” said Lisa Slesinger, co-owner of Larrimor’s. “The selection will never be better than it is on opening day, and we hope our customers will come find something they will enjoy for years to come.”
