Here Are All the Events Happening This September at The Frick

September means the beginning of fall, back to school season and a new line up of programming and activities at The Frick Pittsburgh Museum and Gardens in Point Breeze. Much of the programming this month surrounds its exhibit French Moderns: Matisse/Renoir/Degas — which is on view until Oct. 1 — as well as a guided tour of Carrie Blast Furnace and the returning Symphony of Nature Concert. 

For all events, attendees are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance online or at the Visitors Center. All visitors to the Frick also must stop by the Visitors Center to receive a free site admission wristband.

Lunch Pail Lecture: French Impressionism: Sept. 3 at 12 p.m.

Lunch Pail Lectures are The Frick’s monthly lecture series where attendees are welcome to bring in their own brown bag lunches or order from The Café at the Frick. This month Caroline Fisher, a local storyteller and lifelong Francophile will explore how the French Impressionists movement began, how it evolved and the lasting influence it has had on the art world. Tickets are $10 for members, $15 for non-members and $5 for college students with ID.

Film Screening: Morisot – The Heart is a Rebel: Sept. 13 at 2 p.m.

In celebration of the French Moderns: Matisse / Renoir / Degas exhibition at The Frick, a screening of “Morisot – The Heart is a Rebel” will be shown at The Frick Art Museum Auditorium. The 60-minute film follows Berthe Morisot, a relatively unknown founding member of Impressionism. Each guest receives 1 complimentary bag of popcorn. Tickets are $10 for members, $15 for non-members and $5 for college students with ID.

Books and Banter Reading Club: Sept. 15 at 6 p.m.

Also on theme with the French Moderns: Matisse / Renoir / Degas exhibition, the Books and Banter Reading Club will be discussing “In Montmarte: Picasso, Matisse, and the Birth of Modernist Art” by Sue Roe over refreshments in the Community Room. Tickets are $5 for members, $10 for non-members and $5 for college students with ID. 

Connecting Collections: An Evening in Clayton and French Moderns: Sept. 17 at 6 & 6:30 p.m.

This two-hour tour will explore both Clayton, the historic home in which the Frick family lived for decades, and French Moderns, with discussion about Henry Clay Frick’s love for French Art. Tickets are $40 for members, $50 for non-members and $20 for college students with ID.

Full Day Youth Art Workshops: Sept. 18 at 12 p.m.

This full day workshop, located in the Education Center, will combine both art and history for students in grades 2-5. To develop their art skills participants will look at various artistic mediums and create art in response to the French Moderns exhibit. Tickets are $90 for members and $110 for non-members.

Cocktails and Conversation: French Moderns: Sept. 23 at 6 p.m.

Listen to Frick Pittsburgh Chief Curator, Dawn R. Brean, talk about how she brought the French Moderns exhibit to life, all while enjoying cocktails and mocktails. The 1.5-hour conversation will be located in The Frick Art Museum Auditorium. Tickets are $25 for members, $35 for non-members and $15 for college students with ID. 

Homestead 1892: Exploring the Lockout and Strike with The Frick Pittsburgh and Rivers of Steel: Sept. 26 at 9:30 a.m.

This guided tour will explore the deadly conflict between Steel workers and Pinkerton agents that happened 134 years ago and its lasting impact. It will visit both the Pump House and Carrie Blast Furnace, two sites that played vital roles in the Homestead Lockout. The tour will end at The Frick with a conversation about Henry Clay Frick’s relationship to labor and his decisions that summer over a boxed lunch. The program will begin at the Pump House; participants are responsible for their own transportation. Tickets are $50 for members, $60 for non-members and $30 for college students with ID.

Abandon All Hope: Through the Gates of Hell with Dante and Rodin: Sept. 27 at 2 p.m.

Abandon all hope ye who enter here — Pictorally travel through Dante’s Inferno through the bowels of hell with the final stop at Rodin’s majestic gates. The hour-long lecture, located in the Frick Art Museum Auditorium, will be led by Dr. Kahren Jones Arbitman as she talks about Auguste Rodin’s: “The Gates of Hell.” Tickets are $15 for members, $20 for non-members and $10 for college students with ID.

Symphony of Nature Concert: Fall Sound Bath Concert: Sept. 29 at 6 p.m.

The Symphony of Nature Concert returns for another month led by sound healer and musician Brooke Smokelin. The 75-minute program will begin with a crystal bowl sound bath and end with a brief Q&A with the artist. The event will take place on The Great Lawn and will begin at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 for members, $45 for non-members and $25 for college students with ID.
