Sheetz Knocks It Out of the Park With a Paul Skenes-Approved Hot Dog
The Big Glizzy is available for a limited time at all 838 Sheetz locations across seven states.
Paul Skenes has a beef with average-sized hot dogs.
According to the Pirates’ pitching phenom, they “lack aura.”
Sheetz agreed and unleashed the Big Glizzy, a Nathan’s Famous extra-large hot dog. The limited-time menu item is available at all 838 locations across seven states.
Patrons can customize their 10-inch, Skenes-approved glizzy (that’s modern slang for hot dog), with dozens of toppings, spreads and cheeses. There are also two chef-inspired options, such as the Coney Dog slathered in chili sauce and loaded with shredded cheese or the All-American Dog with ketchup, mustard and relish.
No. 30 douses hiz glizz in ketchup. (Heinz, of course.)
Hot dogs are the top-selling made-to-order menu item at Sheetz, especially in Pennsylvania. The commonwealth leads the company’s footprint in frank sales per store. Dec. 25 is the most popular day of the year for dogs;leave one out for Santa Claus this Christmas Eve.
On June 23, a few hours after Skenes showed up to the Shaler Sheetz to sling hot dogs like fastballs, the site hosted a Gas Station Gala to celebrate the Big Glizzy’s all-star debut.
Dozens of local influencers (and junk food-lovin’ journalists) attended the black-tie event and were pumped to make the over-sized meal go viral.
Since March, the hashtag #glizzy has appeared in more than 2.6 million Instagram posts and 41,600 TikTok videos.
With Skenes going to bat for the Big Glizzy, it’s bound to become an Internet sensation.
“I invented this because the law of big dogs doing big things demanded it,” Skenes says in a promotional video. “Don’t just trust me on the data — ingest the data.”
If his pitching career doesn’t pan out, Skenes (Skenez?) has a bright future as a Sheetz pitchman.
