2024 40 Under 40 Honoree: Jon Mosholder (37)
"What drives me is just coming here to work and being able to communicate with all of my employees in the same way that I communicate as a deaf person."
Jon Mosholder
Owner, Bumbleberry Farms
Jon Mosholder knows firsthand the barriers that the Deaf community faces when entering the workforce, being born deaf himself. Therefore, he only employs people at Bumbleberry Farms, a handcrafted honey production company in Pittsburgh, from the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community so he can support them and show others their capability of holding jobs.
“It makes me feel good to do something for not just myself and the company but for the deaf community,” he says. He took ownership of the company after his mother, Karen Mosholder, decided to retire; she started the company in 2011.
In addition to his work at Bumbleberry Farms, he is also a member of the board of DeafStone, a nonprofit that supports the Deaf and Deaf Blind community, and volunteers with the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf.
