PNC Park may be the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates, but for two days next summer, a bunch of bananas will take the field.
The Savannah Bananas, an independent baseball team known for on-field antics and fast-paced rules, is embarking on the “2025 Banana Ball World Tour,” hitting football and baseball stadiums from coast to coast. On Aug. 29 and 30, the Bananas will roll through PNC Park.

Similar to the Harlem Globetrotters, the Bananas are an exhibition team that plays an in-house trio of opponents — the Firefighters, the Party Animals and the Texas Tailgaters — in games more focused on entertainment than competition. Their home games operate on a massive waiting list; their road appearances use a ticket lottery and routinely sell out.
A similar system will be employed for the team’s Pittsburgh debut (which will occur while the Pirates are on a road trip). Fans can sign up now to purchase tickets approximately two months before the games; the opportunity to buy tickets will be decided via lottery.
In addition to the team’s roster of players, former major leaguers — including the likes of Roger Clemens and Ryan Howard — have suited up for the Bananas at previous road appearances.
Banana Ball games feature rules designed to make for a more fun and chaotic experience. Batters aren’t allowed to leave the batter’s box and are ejected for attempting to bunt. A showdown format is employed in lieu of extra innings. And fans are, technically, in the field of play; if a fan catches a foul ball on the fly, that’s an out.
The tour kicks off in March, and Pittsburgh is expected to draw fans from near and far; Cleveland isn’t on the schedule, making the two PNC Park dates the only Bananas appearances between Philadelphia and Cincinnati.
