On Saturday, July 11, homeowners in Wexford will open up their fences to hundreds of curious Pittsburghers as part of the Wexford Garden and Pond Tour.

Debra Krischke, event organizer, says that the tour will feature fan favorites from years past — and some new surprises.

“It’s anything from ponds with Koi fish to pondless waterfalls, whimsical vignettes and vertical planting,” Krischke says. “Some of our people are so creative.”

The self-guided tour, which takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., is organized by Inspired Women Paying it Forward, an organization that aims to support women locally and globally. According to its website, the group aims to give back to women who come from less privileged backgrounds through partnerships with various charities.

Proceeds from the tour this weekend will benefit clean water projects in Kenya or Uganda under the supervision of CEED Trust, as well as a girls school and skill center in rural Pakistan under the supervision of the ZWEE Foundation

The tour has been on hiatus for the past three years, and Krischke thought it was finally time to bring it back.

“The stars aligned, it had been three years and I really wanted to do it again for the purpose of our statement [which is] from our abundance of water, we’ll pay it forward to those without,” she says.

The Saturday tour will highlight the secret gardens, ponds and fairy hours in the backyards of Wexford residents. On top of that, there is also a Sunday tour from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. of two Sewickley properties, one being a Gilded Age estate and the other a unique contemporary home.

A ticket to the Wexford Garden and Pond Tour will cost $45 and can be purchased here. Check-in and map pick-up is located at Graeter’s Ice Cream Courtyard, next to the Whole Foods in Wexford Plaza.
