Pittsburghers don’t drink soda, we drink pop.

Now there’s a local line of fizzy beverages to help us worsh dahn all the chipped ham sammiches we eat at a Stillers tailgate parties, n’at.

Yinzer Brands, the creators of Yinzer Cards, a line of yinzer-centric greeting cards, has teamed up with yinzer-owned Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop to launch Yinzer Pop. The four signature flavors — Allegheny River Water (cola), Orange Belt (orange), Blawnox Boilermaker (root beer) and Sahside Sangria (grape) — are available in 12-ounce glass bottles at area Grandpa Joe’s stores.

The business is a longtime purveyor of glass bottle pop brands, including a ketchup-flavored one for diehard Heinz fans.

“As a Pittsburgh-born company, Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop is all about celebrating the rich, quirky culture that makes this city special,” said Christopher J. Beers, founder and owner of the sweet business.

The bottle labels, along with all Yinzer Brand artwork, including the Yinzer Dogs food truck, were designed by nationally known cartoonist Rob Rogers and reflect his humorous take on yinz guys.

Jim Krenn, Yinzer Brands co-founder, doesn’t mind being the butt of the joke.

“As someone born and raised in Pittsburgh’s Strip District,” he says, “I’m fiercely committed to pop not soda, and we wanted to seize the opportunity to formulate an offering, like all of our yinzer items have done, that would appeal to a town of yinzer-obsessed pop drinkers.”
