Tiny Allegheny City Brewing Is Planning Big Things In 2024
The Deutschtown brewery recently broke ground on a new taproom.
To celebrate its seventh anniversary, tiny Allegheny City Brewery is throwing a big bash. The festivities start at noon on Saturday, Sept. 30 with beer, bites, bands and maybe a humble-brag.
The owners of the Deutschtown business recently broke ground on a 2,400-square-foot taproom that’ll sit behind their current space at 507 Foreland St. The two-story structure will be erected on the lot between The Farmer’s Daughter Flowers and Fig & Ash on East Ohio Street. It’s expected to open in mid-2024.
It will have room for 94 patrons inside the main bar area and second-floor mezzanine. The building will be set back from the street, leaving room for an L-shaped patio with picnic tables and fire pits. A wraparound deck on the second story will offer views of Downtown and the beer garden.
Although they haven’t finalized the food details yet, there is space for a future kitchen.
“Our intention is to be open most of the day, and to offer our neighborhood something tasty to drink at any time,” says Al Grasso, who co-owns the brewery with siblings Matt and Amy Yurkovich. “We’ve had a lot of conversations with local businesses about a tea and/or coffee option during the day. And, in the evenings we plan to expand our beverage offerings into local craft cocktails and wine, non-alcoholic beer options, local hard seltzer, local pop and more.”
ACB will retain its Foreland Street digs, including the tented seating area outside, for special events and to house the canning, kegging and packaging equipment. Grasso says they plan to up their production capacity by adding a couple of fermenter tanks.
And what will happen to the beloved Dog Wall inside the Foreland Street facility where hundreds of patrons have posted pictures of their pups?
“We’ve talked about the idea of asking everyone who has a picture of a dog on the wall to come on a specific day and time, and all of us walk the pictures to the new Dog Wall at the new space. We think that could be fun. There will definitely be a dog wall at the new space — and the OG dogs represented will be front and center!”
