2020 40 Under 40 Honoree: Katie Le
“I have a lot of empathy for and awareness of people who are disenfranchised.”
Shortly after the end of the Vietnam War, Katie Le’s parents left South Vietnam for the United States, bringing along a set of strong family values and instituting traditional family gatherings — many 30 to 40 people deep — that shaped the way Le views the world.
“I have a lot of empathy for and awareness of people who are disenfranchised,” she says. “Everybody deserves to be treated with respect.”
It’s what motivated the PNC vice president to join the board of Hello Neighbor, a nonprofit organization that supports recently resettled refugee families.
“We empower our nation’s newest citizens and let them know that they too can realize their American Dream, whatever that dream looks like,” Le says.
She takes the same supportive approach with her yoga students. Le is a certified instructor who, during the pandemic, has donated her class fees to local nonprofits in need, helping to ensure that her community thrives, whether on or off the mat.
