Drop in for a Spell at The Witching Hour
Wigle Whiskey’s first pop-up bar is open Fridays and Saturdays through October.
If you enjoy getting into the Halloween spirit(s), now is a wonderful time to be alive!
You can find a bunch of boozy beverages at Pittsburgh Magazine’s Wine & Spirits Festival on Oct. 11 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Rivers Casino. There will be more than 200 products to sample, an on-site Fine Wine & Good Spirits store, a buffet dinner, complimentary parking and a meet-and-greet bottle signing with NHL great Bryan Trottier and Union Forge Vodka. You can chat about all the new grub at PPG Paints Arena this hockey season.

If your only connection to the sport is the goalie mask-wearing killer from the “Friday the 13th” franchise, perhaps a spooky pop-up bar will do the (hat)trick?
At Wigle Whiskey’s distillery on Smallman Street in the Strip District, it’s The Witching Hour every Friday and Saturday night from 6 to 11 p.m. through October. The company’s first pop-up was inspired by their limited-edition Witch’s Bourbon. Through the years, Wigle’s poured a liquid tribute to zombies, vampires and werewolves (that one’s currently unavailable, unless you come to my place.)
My decor looks pretty much like The Witching Hour’s, so you might as well go there.
Guests can revel in the spellbinding mural painted by local artist John Muldoon while they sip signature cocktails such as the Hocus Pocus Martini: Wigle Smallman St. Vodka, Wigle Coffee Liqueur, pumpkin cold brew and pumpkin syrup.
If you want to see Christmas decorations in October and have a spooky cocktail, I recommend visiting Wigle’s location at Ross Park Mall, a shopping center already festooned with holiday cheer. I’m not usually a fan of frozen drinks, but I couldn’t pass up one called Mall Zombie, a mix of Wigle White Rum, orange juice, lemon juice, lime juice and simple syrup topped with grenadine. One sip made me feel like I was on a tropical island. My brain has no idea what season it is.
I hope somebody buys me Hopped Zombie Whiskey for Christmas.
