UPDATE: The Dog Penn’s hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday (no dogs after 10 p.m.) and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Fetch a beer with your BFF in the Strip District!

This month, The Dog Penn will open as a full-service bar and off-leash bark park at 2614 Penn Ave., former site of the Joseph Labriola Sausage Co. Weiner dogs are welcome.

You don’t have to be accompanied by a canine to gain access, but if you do bring your furry companion along, you’ll have to register him online or at the front desk. Pet owners can drop in for $12 a day, buy a $40 monthly membership or get a yearly pass for about 300 bones. The 7,000-square-foot facility is 21 and over for now, but family days and times will be offered throughout the year.

Four-legged visitors must be well-behaved, spayed or neutered and up-to-date on their vaccines. Employees known as “Scamp” Counselors will be on-hand during operating hours to ensure hounds are on their best behavior.

Grab beer, wine or a signature cocktail – the Cujo is a mix of rye, amaro and black walnut bitters — and have a seat or head to the artificial turf yard. The outdoor space is lined with pergolas, Adirondack chairs, laptop charging stations, free Wi-Fi and a fence with portholes for nebby pups who want to peep the action on Penn Avenue.

A rotating lineup of food trucks will provide the chow.

Owners Alissa and Travis May and their rescued mutt, Saber, plan to offer Yappy Hour specials, partner with local shelters and animal welfare organizations on fundraising and adoption events. Alissa’s (human) best friend Artist No Ka ‘Oi painted 31 dog portraits on the side of the building featuring Saber and his pals. More murals are planned for the interior.

There’s a memorial shrine inside where folks can leave pictures of pets who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

Judging from wagging tails I saw during a sneak preview on Friday, The Dog Penn is doggie Heaven on Earth.
