Ramen King 2
I think it’s funny that my former gym — Fitness 19 at McIntyre Square — is now a Chinese ramen and sushi restaurant! Ramen King 2 brings the Canonsburg-based business to the North Hills plaza. It’s located just a few doors down from the fabulous Wei Lai Dim Sum. I guess I could walk there. It’s worth breaking a sweat for the food.
McCandless, 3400 McIntyre Square
1930 by Atria’s
On April 28, Atria’s debuts its original Mt. Lebanon location — again. The longtime restaurant has been transformed into a cocktail bar with a seasonal, chef-inspired menu. The brand’s namesake, Joe Atria, came to the borough from Italy in 1930 and opened a grocery store on the site. Joining current owner Patrick McDonnell on the project is Spencer Warren, a Mt. Lebanon native who is an award-winning bartender and proprietor of Downtown’s The Warren Bar and Burrow.

Nan Xiang
Launched in New York City in 2006, the popular soup dumpling restaurant won a Michelin Guide recommendation for nine consecutive years. Nan Xiang now has locations in six states. The Chinese restaurant chain made its Western Pennsylvania debut in February.

Cafe Momentum
Downtown’s nonprofit, BYOB restaurant, which also serves as a training facility for justice-involved youth, relaunched with a new staff, menu and lunch hours. Cafe Momentum’s founder, Dallas-based chef Chad Houser, was recently honored by the James Beard Foundation as Humanitarian of the Year.

1659 Cranberry
The popular Wexford-based Cafe Conmigo Coffee & Tea House now has a second location in Butler County. The building on Route 228 also houses Straight Line Boutique and a fresh-cut flower shop called Blooms. (A third location of Cafe Conmigo will be opening this year in the center core of the Airside Terminal of Pittsburgh International Airport).

Dads Dog & Burger
Dad’s Dog & Burger opened on 412 Day in a storefront that has been a mom-and-pop operation for decades. In September, after 49 years in business, G/M Dog “N” Burger Shoppe closed. New owner Katelyn Bako kept the “Dog & Burger” part as a tribute to her predecessor.

O’Zone Bar & Grill
The owner of Kelly O’s Diner, a popular chain of breakfast spots, opened O’Zone Bar & Grill in Warrendale to serve the dinner crowd. The storefront is located in Marshall Village, the same plaza as one of her namesake greasy spoons.

Burghers Brewing
Burghers Brewing, which has sites in Zelienople, Lawrenceville and The Highline on the South Side, now has a flagship location in Millvale. The 14,000-square-foot space has a bar on both floors of a former bank.

Kyuramen
The Kyuramen location that opened at 6204 Penn Ave. in East Liberty in December 2024 now has a liquor license. The national ramen chain also recently debuted a space in Cranberry.

A Pittsburgh staple since 1987, the Chinese restaurant moved its North Hills location down the road to The Block Northway.

Crispy Cones
What’s a Crispy Cone? A fresh dough cone, grilled rotisserie-style, covered with cinnamon and sugar and filled with your choice of gourmet, soft-serve ice cream and delicious toppings. The dessert spot featured on “Shark Tank” has nine locations around the country and will open in Hampton this spring. For a local take on the ancient treat, seek out Steel City Chimneys food truck!

Breadbox Sandwich & Sweet Shop
Located in the former Deli on North, Breadbox Sandwich & Sweet Shop opened March 10 with a menu of classic and specialty sandwiches, wraps, hoagies, salads, seasonal sides, soups and dozens of pastries.

In addition to a hard-workin’ food truck, Dos Reyes has a permanent spot in Lincoln Place to serve Sonoran-style Mexican eats. Dine indoors or on the patio.

After six years in Allegheny West, Leo. A Public House owner and chef Michael Barnhouse passed the torch to Jason McCarty, who reopened the bar and restaurant as The Lion.

Josh Sickels knows good pizza — and on May 2, so will Regent Square, in the former Square Cafe space. Visit Rockaway for a New York-style slice. I recommend ordering an entire pie for yourself.

By this time next year, yinz guys could be scarfin’ dahn Skyscraper cones and chipped ham sammiches at Isaly’s in the Strip! Jim and Leslee Conroy, owners of O’Hara-based Conroy Foods, purchased the iconic brand in 2015 and plan to build out a 3,500-square-foot shop using an original Isaly’s deli operations manual.Strip District, 2111 Penn Ave.
Iron & Basil
Katie and Terry Malsch, co-owners of Mount Washington’s Bigham Tavern and its new sister site, Bigham Tavern at Bridgewater in Beaver County, are opening an Italian restaurant in the former DiPietro’s Ristorante. The West View landmark will re-open with a menu of pizza, hoagies, pasta dishes, steaks, seafood and a full-service bar.

Jenny Lee Breakfast Nook
5 Generation Bakers, makers of Pittsburgh’s iconic Jenny Lee Cinnamon Swirl Bread, is opening its first of many Jenny Lee Breakfast Nooks. The fast-casual eatery’s menu will feature the company’s sweet and savory breads.

The Kneeling Man Kitchen
Located in Downtown’s Park Building on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Smithfield Street, the food hall is planning four concepts with a shared kitchen and a common dining room with seating for 204.

Moonlit Burgers
The local burger chain — and winner of Pittsburgh Magazine’s Burger Bracket — is expected to open its third location this spring in Sewickley.

Palm Palm
This spring, Herky and Lisa Pollock and their Ritual House business partners Edwin and Amanda Smith plan to open Palm Palm in East Liberty. The restaurant — in the former Plum Pan Asian Kitchen space at the corner of Highland and Centre avenues — will feature Mid-Century Modern furniture and a menu of shareable plates influenced by the coastal cuisines of California and South America.

Title 9
Right across the street from Palm Palm, Pittsburgh’s first women’s sports watch bar is expected to open in May in East Liberty, after holding a few special weekend pop-ups around womens’ sports events in the space. Title 9, a reference to a federal law that gives women athletes the right to equal opportunity in sports in educational institutions that receive federal funds, will serve food and drink and will exclusively air women’s athletics.

Chef Csilla Thackray is opening an Austro-Hungarian eatery in Lawrenceville’s former Merchant Oyster Co., which closed in late 2024.

Butcher and the Rye
A long-shuttered eatery from the Richard DeShantz Restaurant Group is making a comeback. Closed since December 2020 due to the pandemic (with a few pop-up bar concepts in between), Butcher and the Rye says it will “be back soon!”

F&F Pizzeria
Chefs Frank Falcinelli and Frank Castronovo, known as “The Franks,” are bringing their New York City concept to the former Bado’s Pizza Grille & Ale House (which is still alive in food truck form) spot in Mt. Lebanon. It’s expected to open in May, with two more locations in the works for 2025.

Hey Babe
Restaurant industry veterans Danielle Cain and Rob Hirst are opening an upscale lounge with small plates, retro decor and chill vibes. It’s expected to open this summer inside East Liberty’s historical YMCA building. The 116-year-old structure also houses The Maverick by Kasa boutique hotel and a private event space.

Beef Graffiti
Federal Galley is getting ready to welcome a new concept to the North Side food hall. I haven’t sampled the menu yet, but, judging by the name alone, chef Mark Mammone’s Beef Graffiti has my name written all over it!
