We’ve been asked this question countless times since the announcement was made a few weeks ago; and the answer is yes, Pittsburgh Magazine has taken over management of the annual Whiskey & Fine Spirits Festival.  We’re working to make the event a destination for both aficionados and more casual spirits fans alike and we want to invite you to join us at this year’s revitalized event!

#PghWhiskeyFest Behind the Scenes – An Update from the Planning Team

Reinventing an event of this scale has kept us quite busy this summer, let’s recap.  After visits to Philly and Harrisburg, it was time for our team to figure out how to put our stamp on the Pittsburgh Whiskey Fest and start planning.

The newly opened Rivers Casino Event Center provided an opportunity to expand the event into a space that is more than 25,000-square-feet.  While we are eager to make this event unique and memorable, there were just some things that were beyond our control, due to scheduling conflicts, we had no choice but to host this event on a Wednesday.  But no matter the day of the week, we’re sure that this event will be a fun and informative experience for everyone.

With a new venue secured, we moved onto the branding, which included a new name, Pittsburgh Magazine’s Whiskey & Fine Spirits Festival, and a new logo.

Up next was putting together the ticket packages.  So, what’s included in the Grand Tasting from 6:30-9:00 p.m.?

  • Over 250 premium distilled spirits from around the world including whiskey, scotch, bourbon, tequila, gin, rum, vodka, cordials and handcrafted cocktails
  • An on-site Fine Wine & Good Spirits store
  • Distillers and local representatives present at the tables all night
  • Access to dinner at the Grand View Buffet
  • An exciting new event space
  • Complimentary parking available in the Rivers Casino garage

For the whiskey enthusiast looking for a little extra, the VIP tasting will grant ticket holders early access to the festival from 5:00-6:30 p.m. and a voucher for $10 off a $30 purchase at the on-site Fine Wine & Good Spirits store.

There are just a few days left to secure your tickets at the early bird discounted rates of $65 for the Grand Tasting and $95 for the VIP Tasting (pricing goes up September 1; don’t miss out on the savings). Get tickets here.

With just eight weeks to go, we’re finalizing the product lists and confirming the master distillers that will be onsite.  We’re also busy working with brands like Dewar’s and Beam to design their interactive lounges plus putting plans in place for a “Local Lounge” that will feature locally distilled craft spirits from Wigle Whiskey, Liberty Pole Spirits and more.  Be sure to check-out #PghWhiskeyFest Behind the Scenes over the next few weeks as we detail all of these plans.
