Matua Valley Sauvignon Blanc
Pair this wine, which opens with citrus zest and floral aromas, with shellfish.
New Zealand has planted grapes for more than a century but only recently has been recognized globally for producing quality wines.
While the reds, specifically pinot noir, are of good quality, the whites are the real gems — especially the sauvignon blanc varieties that have a crisp, citrus style. Matua [$12.99; PLCB code: 9333] makes one of my favorites, which I have scored at 90 points.
It opens with citrus zest and floral aromas. Flavors of lemon and key lime are balanced with a crisp finish. Serve with shellfish.
