Is there anything more Pittsburgh than eating Jenny Lee Cinnamon Swirl Bread, worshing it dahn with a Turner’s Iced Tea and reminiscing with other yinzers about stuff that’s not here anymore?

Well, now there’s a dedicated place to do just that!

Jenny Lee Breakfast Nook opened June 24 for takeout service at 1014 Brodhead Road in Moon. The breakfast-and-lunch menu includes French toast, sandwiches, salads, soups and smash burgers made with local mom-and-pop shop products, including Mancini’s Bread and Cesina’s Sausage. You also can stock up on Jenny Lee’s new line of dry mixes based on old company recipes: Yellow Cake, Chocolate Chip Cookie, Sweet Dough and Classic Muffin.

Although Jenny Lee Bakery — known as 5 Generation Bakers since 2009 — has been making bread for 150 years, this is the McKees Rocks-based company’s first foray into the restaurant business.

They want to take it slow. Actually, they have to take it slow since supply-chain issues have delayed the arrival of furniture and other items. But, the crew is using the downtime to streamline operations so dine-in service can start shortly after the Fourth of July. (cue the Zambelli Fireworks)

After wowing crowds with their sammiches at Picklesburgh last year, they’re working on new recipes for the 10th-anniversary event, which will take place July 11-13 Downtown.

5 Generation Bakers owner Scott Baker, who graduated from Moon Area High School and dined at the Brodhead Road building in the ‘70s when it housed Pompeo’s restaurant, plans to open more Breakfast Nooks in the area with his business partners Jack Hunt, Rich Bufalini, Rocco Bufalini and RJ Carrabbia.

Carrabbia’s daughter, Nora, a pint-sized foodie who is gunning for my gig, recommends the biscuits & gravy.

I couldn’t wait until I got home to eat my 1014 Breakfast Sammie made with sweet maple sausage, a fried egg and American cheese on raisin cinnamon swirl bread, so I devoured it at the counter while chatting with my fellow Steel City natives. I was at a loss for words, but I sure made a lot of happy chewing sounds, n’at.
