Girl Scout Cookies Get a New Look — And A New Flavor
The updated cookie packaging coincides with the release of Lemon-Ups in Western Pennsylvania.
This year is a big one — it’s a leap year, an election year, the start of the new decade — and now Girl Scouts has announced its highly anticipated 2020 cookie lineup with a few additions.
On Tuesday, Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania and Girl Scouts of the USA introduced updated packaging for the cookies. The new look features images of Girl Scouts taking part in activities such as canoeing and community service.
And in what is perhaps even more exciting news for cookie fans, Western Pennsylvania is getting a new treat called Lemon-Ups. The crispy lemon cookies are made extra special thanks to the messages promoting girl power printed on them. Some of the messages on the cookies include “I am a go-getter” and “I am a leader.”
The sales of Girl Scout cookies go far beyond providing consumers with a snack. When a Girl Scout sells a package of cookies, the proceeds of the sale stay local. The program is also designed to teach young girls about business, according to Girl Scouts of the USA CEO Sylvia Acevedo.
“Everyone loves Girl Scout Cookies — but the program is about so much more than cookies,” says Acevedo. “Girls learn about entrepreneurship as they run their own cookie businesses. The important business and financial literacy skills girls learn through the program are proven to build their leadership skills and position them for success in the future. When you purchase cookies you are helping girls power their Girl Scout experience and you’re supporting female entrepreneurs.”
