Singer and actress Maura Underwood hits a high note in a film noir-inspired look topped off by a 1940s-era velvet hat with a birdcage veil ($45), vintage rhinestone brooch ($30) and pearl earrings ($30), all from Hey Betty!

A well-known stop in Shadyside for vintage-lovers, Hey Betty! has been selling a curated collection of men’s and women’s clothing and accessories from a bygone era for more than 30 years.

It’s one of ModCloth founder Susan Koger’s favorite local thrift stores, and it has been visited by numerous movie stars, including Helen Mirren and Robert Downey Jr., while they were filming various projects in Pittsburgh.

About the model: The choir director at Blackhawk High School in Beaver Falls, Underwood is the board president for Voces Solis, a chamber choir formed by teachers, for teachers, in 2011. The choir in residence at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mt. Lebanon, Voces Solis performs a diverse repertoire of challenging and innovative choral works — including pieces by local composers — throughout the Pittsburgh area.
