Across Vitalant’s service area in Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, and Northern West Virginia, driven and determined young people are looking beyond themselves. Through fundraising, philanthropy, volunteerism, and activism, they are dedicating their time and talents to making a positive difference in the lives of others. In doing so, they are setting an example for our entire region.

Vitalant Foundation’s (formerly Blood Science Foundation’s) NextUp Awards shine a light on these young change agents, who represent the very best their generation has to offer. The program awards scholarships to individuals 18 years of age or younger who have shown a transformative commitment to their communities. Proceeds from this event benefit Vitalant’s High School Scholarship Program.

Judges will review and score submissions based on the following:

• Direct impact on the community through the nominee’s philanthropic effort.
• Long-term/sustained outcomes of the nominee’s philanthropic efforts.
• Whether the nominee’s philanthropic efforts can serve as a model for use in other communities.

Finalists will join the Vitalant Foundation as honored guests at our Second Annual NextUp Awards Celebration on October 5, 2022. Winners in each of three age groups (inclusive of elementary- through high-school-aged youth) will be revealed at the event and will each receive $2,500 to further their education or to invest in their philanthropic or charitable programs, with the first and second runners up receiving $500 each for the same purposes.

The deadline to submit nomination forms is May 31, 2022.
