Long days lounging by the pool are right around the corner.

The Allegheny County Parks Department has announced that Boyce Park Wave Pool, North Park Swimming Pool, Settlers Cabin Park Wave Pool and South Park Wave Pool will open for the summer on Saturday, June 5.

The pools will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday. On June 12, the pools will open daily, as by that time high school students will be on summer break — and more lifeguards can be hired.

The pools will remain open every day throughout the summer, weather and conditions permitting. Pools that don’t open by 2 p.m. will stay closed for the remainder of the day.

The Deer Lakes Spray Park and Round Hill Spray Park also open this Saturday for the summer. The free spray parks are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, weather and conditions permitting.

While routine maintenance was conducted at all the pools, visitors may notice changes at the South Park Wave Pool, where concrete was replaced and the pool was caulked and painted. The Round Hill Spray Park also underwent some upgrades, including new artificial turf around the spray pad, benches and a retaining wall.

Lifeguards Needed
According to the Allegheny County Parks Department, lifeguard positions at all pools are still available at $14 per hour. To apply, candidates must be at least 15 years old and have current lifeguard, first aid and CPR certifications. They also must pass an aquatics test. More information about the necessary qualifications can be found here.

The City of Pittsburgh is also looking for lifeguards so it can open eight of its public pools later this month.  If it can attract more lifeguards, additional pools may open later in the summer.

Daily Admission Rates
Groups of more than 20 people who notify pools at least 24 hours in advance may qualify for a discount. For more information, visit the Allegheny County website
