High-end French Champagnes are expensive. As a substitute, I continue to search for special cuvées of sparkling wines that offer value. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, I have selected two sparkling wines from California, made by Tom Tiburzi and the Domaine Chandon team, for the romantic at heart. The Étoile brut is rated at 93 points and the Étoile rosé at 94. The brut [$29.99; PLCB code: 29037], an elegant wine, has nice citrusy aromas with fine bubbles. The flavors show light lemony fruit with a crisp finish. The rosé [$34.99; PLCB code: 29036] is a beauty with its light-pink color and aromas of red raspberry and bread yeast. The raspberry flavors are delicious with a creamy finish.
