Cool Cats: Have a Meowy Time in Lawrenceville
The first-ever Lawrenceville Cat Crawl is coming on Nov. 14, modeled after a similar, and successful, event in Brighton Heights.
Cat people: It’s your time to shine.
On Nov. 14, the cool cats of the East End will take to the streets for the Lawrenceville Cat Crawl. Modeled after a wildly successful event held in Brighton Heights over the summer, the Lawrenceville crawl invites cat lovers (and their whiskered companions) on a walking tour of the neighborhood. Around 20 homes and businesses will be participating, showing off their feline friends stationed in windows and “catios,” on front porches or leashed in their owner’s arms. Each participating stop will be marked with an orange cat emoji.
In August, the Pittsburgh Cat Walk in Brighton Heights raised $8,000 for three animal rescue organizations: Frankie’s Friends, The Pittsburgh Paw Project and Save Our Strays.
“It was literally one of the best moments of my life,” Heather Costello, who co-organized the event with Carlin Christy, told Pittsburgh Magazine in October. “Of course, it’s amazing to help animals and the people who help animals — that was at the heart of the endeavor — but it was also about bringing people together in real life.”
The Lawrenceville Cat Crawl starts at 11 a.m. at Iron City Boulders on 51st Street, where vendors will be set up to raise funds for a nonprofit cat rescue organization: Conquer the Colony. The crawl itself begins at noon and will wrap up around 2 p.m. There is a $5 suggested donation to attend.
