Alaina Webber still remembers sitting in the alley outside Brew Gentlemen at sunset, cracking open the first cans of General Braddock’s with the handful of people who made them. Before the beer went out into the world, it was theirs to savor. Reopening the former Superior Motors space as Braddock Public House was another milestone.
Webber and partner Matt Katase began with what was already there, and what neighbors wanted to eat and experience. “The area deserves an affordable, intentional place to gather,” she says.
As owner and COO of Brew Gentlemen and Braddock Public House, Webber has spent more than a decade in Braddock, leading teams across brewing, culinary and hospitality.
She previously served as president of the Braddock Carnegie Library, which she calls the community’s “heart.” Libraries were her safe place growing up; today, she sees Braddock’s as a refuge, creative space and sometimes “a first responder.”
“It’s about us,” she says of Braddock Public House, “but it didn’t start with us. And it won’t end with us, either.”
