A new season means brand-new experiences at the National Aviary! This summer, dive into the world of raptors and other incredible birds of prey during exciting talks, expert feedings, and up-close encounters.
Plus, meet a majestic Harpy Eagle – the ONLY one currently living in the Northeast!
Seasonal Daily Activities
Learn about the Harpy, a juvenile, whose talons are the same size as a bear’s claws, and enjoy other Daily Activities included with admission, like the Royal Raptors: Expert Talk. Discover the unique adaptations of majestic Bald Eagles and how other birds of prey, like Andean Condors, compare!
Extra special add-ons
Hand-feed a vibrant flock of Rainbow Lorikeets a cup of sweet nectar, or take flight on Birdly®, an immersive virtual reality flight simulator where you take to the skies!
Experience the brand-new indoor raptor show, Fierce in Flight, where birds like Black Kites and Lanner Falcons soar overhead. One lucky guest may even get to hold an adorable Hooded Vulture on their gloved hand!
Don’t worry, Passport to Parks lovers, the Aviary’s ongoing show featuring an ecotour of global national parks (and gorgeous birds!) will still have daily showtimes.
Hands-on fun for all ages
This summer brings new Interactive Play Spaces where kids can assemble a custom raptor species using the Raptor Toolbox, see how their wingspans and grip strengths measure up to these fierce foes, practice handling a plush falcon with a kid-sized glove at the Junior Falconer station, and more!
Plus, enjoy photo ops like a remarkably beautiful, winged backdrop and life-sized bird cutouts!
Get closer to incredible species with Animal Encounters
Double the fun: During the NEW Falcon + Flighted Friend Encounter, guests will get the chance to hold a fierce falcon who FLIES to their gloved hand, AND another feathered friend, like a parrot or aracari, soars to you as well!
Back for the summer, head to the Wetlands beach to hand-feed a pink-hued flock during the Flamingo Feeding Encounter (the only one offered in an AZA-accredited institution in Western PA!). You may even get close to other wading birds, Inca Terns, and adorable ducks.
