Voodoo Brewing Co.’s North Shore location is closed.

June 3 was the last day of operation for the pub, which opened in 2022 on North Shore Drive in the former Rivertowne Brewing space.

“After almost three years, we’ve made the call to close the pub so we can double down on what we do best: brewing world-class beer and making it more available throughout Pennsylvania,” the company stated on social media. “This shift will allow us to improve our production, expand distribution and support our growing network of franchise locations across the country.”

The Meadville-based brewery has more than 20 corporate and franchise sites throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio and many other states. In March, a franchise in Seven Fields, Butler County closed after a year in business.

All of the company’s beer is produced at the original, 60,000-barrel-capacity Meadville facility that opened in 2005.

Drink carbohydrates for a good cause!

Strip District businesses Cinderlands Beer Co., DiAnoia’s Eatery and Pane é Pronto collaborated on a brew to benefit 412 Food Rescue, a nonprofit dedicated to preventing food waste by redirecting it to those who are experiencing food insecurity.

Con Pane, meaning ‘with bread’ in Italian, is a Hazy IPA brewed with Nelson Sauvin, Galaxy and Enigma hops and rescued bread from the Italian restaurant and its sister bakery.

The beverage is available on tap and in 4-packs of 16-ounce cans at all Cinderlands retail locations, DiAnoia’s Eatery and throughout the Western Pennsylvania market.

A portion of proceeds from Con Pane sales will be donated directly to 412 Food Rescue.

I had one of the first cans off of the line and can attest that it’s quite tasty and clocks in at 6.4% ABV.

Con Pane is such a meaningful collaboration for us — it takes the serious issue of food waste and turns it into something fun, approachable, and delicious,” says Aimee DiAndrea Anoia, co-founder of DiAnoia’s Eatery. “By working with our neighbors at Cinderlands and the team at 412 Food Rescue, we’re not only reducing waste by repurposing our leftover bread, but also helping to spark conversations and awareness in the community.”

Barrel & Flow 5

A week of Barrel & Flow festivities kick off on Aug. 3 with a vinyl release party at Kingfly Spirits in the Strip District.

A dozen local musicians collaborated on five original songs to celebrate five years of promoting Black beer, arts, community and culture.

Recorded at Social Hill, printed by Hellbender Vinyl and featuring cover art by Juliandra Jones, only 500 copies of the album will be made available, with no digital downloads or streams. Pre-orders open July 5 or you can grab a record at the release party, an event that is free and open to the public.

On Aug. 7, they will bring the beer bash to the Gateway Clipper for Barrel & Float. There will be a live performance from NASH.V.ILL, sounds from DJ Big Phil and an open bar curated by Barrel & Flow. Tickets are $80 in advance and $100 at the dock.

The main festival will be held on Aug. 9 at The Stacks at 3 Crossings in the Strip. Throughout June, keep your eyes open for Barrel & Flow’s arts and business tent that will be popping up around town selling discounted tickets and merchandise.

Parks on Tap Beer Garden

Sip a pint in Schenley Park.

Eleventh Hour Brewing will be pouring outside of the Schenley Park Visitors Center at 101 Panther Hollow Road (across the street from Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens) on the final Friday of every month through September. You can also grab bites from a rotating lineup of food trucks before hitting the trails. Seating fills up quickly, so pack a lawn chair or blanket.

Lawrenceville-based Eleventh Hour brewed Summer in the Parks, a light lager with a hint of lime, exclusively for the seasonal partnership.

The beer garden will be open from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Schenley Park Visitors Center on June 27, July 25, Aug. 29 and Sept. 26.
