Beginning this spring, kids at Kennywood will no longer be able to enjoy “Thomas & Friends” themed rides.

Kennywood plans to replace the attraction, just seven years after it opened in 2018, a spokesperson said.

“In 2025, we will introduce all-new experiences to the park,” spokesperson Lynsey Williams said.

The park’s Thomas Town was the second largest “Thomas & Friends” attraction in the United States when it opened. Now it will be the last since its sister attraction was closed in 2023 at the Edaville Family Theme Park in Carver, Massachusetts, according to the local WBSM TV station.

“We are thankful for the collaboration with the Thomas & Friends brand and Mattel and looking forward to future opportunities for collaboration,” Williams said.

The park initially chose the Thomas & Friends brand because it wanted to work with a children’s brand and a character that has stood the test of time, much like the park itself, former spokesperson Nick Paradise said in 2018.

When the $8.5 million Thomas Town opened, it was the first time in more than 10 years that new rides aimed at the park’s young guests were introduced.

More details about what the new theme is will be released soon, Williams said.
