If you’re looking to be home for the holidays in one of the best cities for Christmas, you’re in the right place.

Pittsburgh ranked No. 2 out of 100 American cities in WalletHub’s recent survey rating the most festive — and affordable — places to celebrate the holiday. Atlanta topped the list. Rounding out the top 5 were Seattle at No. 3, Las Vegas No. 4 and Orlando at No. 5.

“Pittsburgh is the second-best place for celebrating Christmas in 2024, in part because it’s a great place for getting treats and presents,” according to the analysts who based their findings on 28 key indicators such as traditions, shopping and costs.

The company highlighted the Steel City’s large number of candy stores and chocolatiers per capita, and believe it or not, it has the third-lowest average price for a bottle of wine, courtesy of the PA Liquor Control Board. It has the seventh-most number of card shops, the eighth-most number of toy stores and the 11th-most number of hobby shops per capita.

Pittsburgh also is a “fairly religious city,” with the eighth-highest share of the population that is Christian. It also has the fifth-most number of churches per capita.

And don’t forget outdoor activities — there are ice rinks aplenty. Pittsburgh has the fifth-most ice skating rinks per capita.

“With inflation making Christmas celebrations, gifts, food and travel more expensive, certain cities are much better for your wallet than others during the holiday,” Chip Lupo, WalletHub analyst said in a statement. “In addition to being affordable, the best cities have a large number of people celebrating, plenty of places for Christians to worship, populations who give generously to charity and plenty of fun activities to enjoy with family and friends.”

WalletHub, headquartered in Miami, is a personal finance company that aims to empower consumers to lead financially healthy lives.
