Pittsburgh Steelers’ Playoff Game with Buffalo Moved to Monday
Buffalo is expecting blizzard conditions beginning Saturday evening.
Pittsburghers will have to pause their playoff party plans.
A forecast of 1-3 feet of snow in the Buffalo area prompted the National Football League to postpone Sunday’s 1 p.m. kickoff between the Steelers and the Bills to 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said a forecast of 1-3 feet of snow with single-digit wind chills is too dangerous for fans traveling to the game.
The NFL said in a statement that in the “best interests of public safety,” it decided to switch the date after consulting with Hochul, the Steelers and the Bills. The schedule change was announced just over 24 hours before the scheduled kickoff.
Hochul also said Erie County will have a travel ban starting at 9 p.m. Saturday. On Friday, Hochel had declared a state of emergency for western New York.
It is the first time in NFL history that a postseason game has been moved from its original date because of weather.
