Photo Gallery: Witches and Warlocks Take the Water at North Park
Nancy Barnes, an L.L. Bean Outdoor Discovery Program kayak and paddleboard instructor, got the idea from a similar event held in the Pacific Northwest.
The ducks who call North Park Lake home had to be confused.
Dozens of witches and warlocks, decked out in colorful and creative costumes, guided their kayaks and stand-up paddleboards across the lake on Saturday, Oct. 7, to the delight of spectators lining the shores.
The 4th annual Witch and Warlock Paddle Outing and Food Drive benefited the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Hosted by L.L. Bean’s Outdoor Discovery Program, the event resulted in enough donations to fill two SUVs with food and other essentials, along with cash donations.
Several people also were checked to see if they were a possible match through the National Bone Marrow Registry for a local 8-year-old in need of a life-saving stem cell transplant.
