Candice Marie Pulkowski is clear on her professional motivations: “I think being able to see the impact [of my work] — that inspires me.”

In her role with Highmark Wholecare, she interacts with customers, such as the 400,000-plus Pennsylvania-based Medicare and Medicaid members, via interviews for the Wholecare magazine; in her volunteer work, she witnesses the influence of do-gooders’ efforts.

At Highmark, she has increased member satisfaction scores and, in 2020, launched a Voice of the Customer initiative; she says she loves that her role “is addressing disparities in the health care system.”

Her community involvement runs deep; among her credits, she has supported more than 20 causes via board or volunteer commitments and, in 2016, she co-founded Benevine, which links young professionals with nonprofit organizations needing specific skills and support.
