“My ethos is people before processes. I meet my students where they are, and if they are performing to the best of their ability, that’s a win.”

Robert Howard II took the long road to become a teacher nearly eight years ago.

“I was a banker first, but I realized the lifelong impressions teachers leave on your life, so I left banking because of teachers who saw me as a person beyond the content. I wanted to have that same impact on students.”

After earning a number of undergraduate and master’s degrees from Duquesne, Point Park and Robert Morris universities, Howard began building those relationships within the classroom and community.

Howard started the nonprofit Pride Project Incorporated in 2020 to help under-served youth and adults on the North Side with after-school and mentoring programs.

The father of six also serves as pastor of Kingdom View Ministry, a non-denominational Christian church in Observatory Hill. He feels like both of these roles are an extension of his work as a teacher.
