24 Terrific Pittsburgh Restaurants Open on Monday
There are plenty of options for dining out on a night when many Pittsburgh restaurants are closed.

A question I’m often asked: “Where can I get dinner in Pittsburgh on a Monday night?”
Monday typically is a slow day for the restaurant industry, so many Pittsburgh establishments, particularly those with small staffs, choose to remain closed. Fret not. Even if one of your favorite restaurants isn’t open, you have options. A lot of them, in fact.
Alternatively, point yourself to a hotel, institutions which need to cater to their clientele every day of the week. Let them feed you, too. Whitfield (Ace Hotel), or, The Whale (Distrikt Hotel) and fl.2 (Fairmont Pittsburgh) all have menu items that range from light salads to decadent steaks; all three feature excellent desserts, too.
Pittsburgh’s two major restaurant groups — big Burrito Restaurant Group and Richard DeShantz Restaurant Group — offer a lot of choices. big Burrito’s Eleven Contemporary Kitchen, Casbah, Soba, Kaya and all Mad Mex locations are open; between those, you have a wide variety of quality options (but you’ll have to wait until Tuesday for sushi at Umi). Three Richard DeShantz establishments — Meat & Potatoes, Pork & Beans and täkō — are open, with Meat & Potatoes even offering late-night specials for those who like to start the week off with a kick.
Or, go international. Chengdu Gourmet, Taiwanese Bistro Cafe 33, Ki Ramen, Noodlehead, Salem’s Market & Grill and Sakura Teppanyaki and Sushi (get neither sushi nor teppanyaki, instead opt for the northern Chinese menu) are some of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh … and are open on Monday.
Finally, if you’re looking for something casual, there are outstanding picks for where to have an excellent meal. Baby Loves Tacos has over the past few months become a beloved spot for a quick bite to eat. Smoke Barbeque Taqueria hybrid barbeque/taco joint continues to be a sensation, and, up the block, newcomer Merchant Oyster Company offers a ridiculous selection of oysters (shocking) as well as chowders and sandwiches. At Acorn in Shadyside, there are stunning plates of smoked beets and hearty main courses. Jamilka Borges, one of Pittsburgh’s best chefs, recently took the helm of the kitchen at Independent Brewing Company in Squirrel Hill; well-crafted gastropub food paired with craft beer sounds like a perfect Monday meal to me.
UPDATE: Even these of us who are attentive let something slip from time to time. Stagioni, one of Pittsburgh's best Italian restaurants (and a personal favorite) also is open on Monday. As is Federal Galley, the North Side restaurant incubator featuring four restaurant concepts and, in favorable weather, a beer garden.
