Senior Program Manager, Social Determinants of Health, Highmark Health; Executive Director, Athletic Trauma Unit (#ATU)

A career at her family-owned McDonald’s franchises jumpstarted Monica Malik’s journey and passion for community service. Through her work, Malik knew that she wanted to have an impact on the families in the area, and she started community programs such as “Coffee with a Cop,” Toys for Tots distributions and more.

“It gives me a personal sense of fulfillment seeing different people connected to resources and the contributions I’ve made to someone’s life,” she says.

Malik is still focused on the community in her current career roles. As senior program manager for Social Determinants of Health at Highmark Health, she focuses on programs that address needs to help improve health outcomes and reduce health care costs. At #ATU, a nonprofit centered in community health, Malik offers community workouts, free meal plans, food distributions and health events.

“My goal is to make some kind of an impact. Whether it’s program design, assisting a community benefit or connecting individuals with resources, I try to leave a positive impact for the day.”
