2022 40 Under 40 Honoree: Michael R. McLaughlin Jr.
“Doing something like being a resource for somebody that has a question or making a positive difference is a goal for all of us when we come in.”
MICHAEL R. MCLAUGHLIN JR. (36)
Fire Chief, Peters Township
The safety of his personnel, the community and the travelers in and out of the region are the reasons why Chief Michael McLaughlin places such importance on raising firefighter training standards for his department.
“The better trained we are, the safer we are,” he says.
McLaughlin, a nationally certified firefighter, fire officer, fire instructor and inspector, as well as a Pennsylvania-certified EMT, leads a team that responds to more than 1,500 emergencies annually and has an active community risk reduction program. This program provides fire safety sessions, car seat installations, fire drills and more for residents, businesses and schools in the region.
“We may not have the opportunity to save a life every day, but doing something like being a resource for somebody that has a question or making a positive difference is a goal for all of us when we come in.”
