2010 Turnbull Old Bull
This wine is a blend of 51 percent cabernet sauvignon, 26 percent syrah, 12 percent petite sirah and 11 percent cabernet franc fruit.
I recently tasted the 2010 vintage of red wines from Turnbull Wine Cellars. Under the direction of winemaker Peter Heitz, Turnbull has produced one of the best arrays of reds I have tasted. This month, I have selected a red wine blend called Old Bull, scored at 91 points. But if you have the opportunity to taste the leopoldina cabernet franc, fortuna merlot or cabernet sauvignon wines that are labeled amoenus, black label, fortuna, leopoldina or pierra, do not hesitate; they all are exceptional. The Old Bull [$19.99; PLCB code: 48093] is a blend of 51 percent cabernet sauvignon, 26 percent syrah, 12 percent petite sirah and 11 percent cabernet franc fruit. The wine delivers rich, multilayered aromas and flavors of plum, black cherry and cocoa with a balance of tannins and creamy oak in the finish.
