2010 Etude Chardonnay

Round flavors of honeydew, pear, lemon and apple highlighted by minerals and spice in this wine from Carneros, California.

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board’s Chairman’s Selection program has been a boon to wine lovers, as it offers the consumer quality bottles at a discounted cost.

The wines fit any palate — from reds, whites and rosés to sparkling and dessert wines — which is why I wanted to suggest one for you to try: the Etude chardonnay ($17.99; PLCB code: 32744).

The wine, which received a score of 94 on my scale, was originally quoted at $32. It has aromas of citrus (most notably lemon and lemon blossoms), as well as round flavors of honeydew, pear, lemon and apple that are highlighted by minerals and spice. Because the wine hasn’t undergone malolactic fermentation, its finish isn’t exactly crisp.
