2009 Ramey Chardonnay

This bold wine from Hudson Vineyard has multilayered and complex flavors.

As a winemaker, David Ramey has an impressive track record. He worked at prestigious wineries like Dominus Estate, Rudd Estate and Matanzas Creek before he opted to strike out on his own in 1996. Ramey produces a wide range of outstanding wines from chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon and syrah grapes — but the real gems are his chardonnay wines.

For your enjoyment, I selected my favorite one — the 2009 vintage from the Hudson Vineyard ($61.99; PLCB code: 36546), which I gave a score of 95. This bold wine, with multilayered and complex flavors, opens with wonderful aromas of honeyed citrus, ripe apple and sweet oak — and closes with a rich finish.

Rating: 95
