2008 Stump Jump Sticky Chardonnay
Go down under this month with a rich and full bodied Chardonnay from McClaren Vale, Australia.
I tend to pick wines for a myriad of reasons, some more obscure than others. This month, I selected the 2008 Stump Jump Sticky Chardonnay from d’Arenberg ($9.99), a venerable producer from McClaren Vale, Australia.
My wife and I view dessert wines as the perfect finish to a fine meal. We’ve sampled all kinds, but I cannot remember trying one that was based upon the Chardonnay grape. The wine is full bodied and rich.
The flavor profile is a honey and apricot blend with a hint of raisin. But what I liked best was the eye chart-inspired label that doubled as a makeshift sobriety test: If you hold the bottle at arm’s length and can still read the bottom line, well, good on ya, mate!
