Kennywood Styled Shoot: Come Fly With Me

Styled shoots are becoming a popular way for wedding vendors to put together an absolute dream day to show off all that they can accomplish.

When Kimberly Allera of Mt. Lebanon-based Olive & Rose Events began to work on a styled shoot this spring, Kennywood proved to be the perfect backdrop.

“Our overall vision was to do a fun, colorful amusement park wedding but in a really elevated, non-cheesy way,” Allera says. “Kennywood was perfect because it’s such a place of nostalgia for so many people.”

The invitations, with a hand-drawn map of Kennywood, read “Elizabeth and Charles, May 12, 2018. Fly in and come ride rollercoasters with us.” Lush greenery and other flowers by Julie James Design served as the centerpieces. Whimsical lollipops were part of the decor as well as favors set out on plates for guests.

Delectable treats prepared by Stratwood Catering at Kennywood included pulled pork mini tacos, fish tacos, chicken and waffles, crab cake sliders, meatball sliders, rosemary French fries, funnel cake ice cream sandwiches, margaritas and bloody Mary shooters. Dessert by Bella Christie & Lil’ Z’s Sweet Boutique was an array of ice cream cones and sundaes, cake pops and cotton candy parfaits.

“The food was a nod to classic amusement park food — funnel cake, French fries, etc., but done in a classy way and displayed in a unique manner,” Allera says.

Allera says she worked for weeks planning the shoot, which took place at Kennywood before the park opened for the season.

“I was blown away,” by all that Kennywood did, she says. “It all came together even better than I imagined.”
