You Can Rent a Movie Theater for Just $50
At Waterworks Cinema, people can now rent theater spaces to watch classic films with up to 24 friends.
For $50, Waterworks Cinema is allowing groups up to 25 people to rent a theater and watch a classic film.
The offer is part of a new promotion from MovieScoop, an independent theater chain based in Pittsburgh, to provide entertainment while still staying safe and socially distant. Currently, the Waterworks location, which opened at limited capacity in late June, is the only theater offering the $50 rental, but theaters in Cranberry Township will soon offer the deal as well.
A week’s worth of rentals was sold out within 15 minutes of the offer being posted on MovieScoop’s Facebook page, according to spokesperson Liz Harper. She says the rental experience appeals to families and friends looking for social distancing from strangers during the pandemic.
Guests and employees are required to wear masks inside the theater, with an exception for eating and drinking. Movie times are spaced out to avoid crowding in the lobby and to allow time for employees to sanitize the theaters between movies.
The films that will be available for private screenings include “The Big Lebowski”, “Black Panther”, “Bridesmaids”, “Field of Dreams”, “Ghostbusters (1984)”, “Inside Out”, “Jurassic Park” and “Trolls World Tour.” Rental times and tickets are available on MovieScoop’s website.
