For Pittsburghers with acting dreams (or dreams of meeting Tom Hanks), Mister Rogers has some good news for you.

The Fred Rogers film “You Are My Friend,” starring Tom Hanks and Matthew Rhys, is searching for extras of all ethnicities and ages to appear as pedestrians, party guests, journalists, business people and more. Movie Extras Pittsburgh will hold an open casting call for the spots from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

The film is a “period show” according to the online call for extras on Movie Extra Pittsburgh's website. Anyone interested is asked to wear 1990’s attire if available. Those who are selected to appear in the film will be paid; no acting experience is necessary.

“You Are My Friend” will follow Fred Rogers’ friendship with journalist Tom Junod, who met Rogers when writing a profile on him in 1998. The film is set to debut in October 2019.
