PPG Foundation and Corporate Global Social Responsibility
Malesia Dunn grew up in Kansas City, Mo., before communications careers in fields such as TV news, consumer goods, healthcare and oil and gas took her to places like Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey and London. She came to Pittsburgh and stayed for about 15 years, then spent a couple years in Georgia before coming back to Pittsburgh in August 2018 to head up the PPG Foundation and its global community engagement program.
“My goal is to have a positive impact on others through the work that I do,” Dunn says.
Founded in 1883 as a small glass company, PPG now has more than 47,000 employees. The PPG Foundation provides grants to community organizations throughout the United States. Its global corporate social responsibility program includes community engagement work in other parts of the world where PPG has a presence.
“We have three key focus areas,” Dunn says. “Community sustainability, STEM education and employee engagement.”
As the executive director of the PPG Foundation and Corporate Global Social Responsibility, Dunn wears many hats. In any given day, she leads the strategy and management of all of the foundation’s engagement activities around the world and does grant-making work. She also leads employee engagement activities, including a global volunteer program called Colorful Communities, where PPG employees paint facilities, buildings and outdoor spaces for charitable and educational organizations.
Dunn, who won a Women of Excellence award from the New Pittsburgh Courier last fall, describes herself as passionate, positive and genuine and is glad that her careers provided her the opportunity to pursue her passions.
“Say yes to opportunities — they will open doors that you didn’t imagine. And keep moving forward, always,” she says.
