Senior Vice President, Director of Employee Benefits
Henderson Brothers, Inc.
For the past nine years, Beth Essey has worked for Henderson Brothers, the region’s largest independent insurance brokerage, consulting and financial services organization. The company, privately-held and family-owned, was founded in Pittsburgh more than 100 years ago and provides property and casualty brokerage, employee benefits and retirement plan consulting to employers of all sizes.
“Our entire service team is based here in Pittsburgh and as a result, we can deliver superior results through an authentic team-based approach,” Essey says.
As part of her position, Essey helps employers manage and navigate healthcare benefits, something she says she is “obsessed” with. Solving difficult client problems is the core of the business, and Essey says in the future the company plans to leverage technology to create innovative and client-centric solutions.
“I can’t imagine not working in this arena in some capacity, although working with business students at the collegiate level is enticing,” she says.
Self-described as passionate, energetic and resourceful, Essey says that she is always busy, always multi-tasking and has a Type A personality.
She advises other women in business to stick together, as everyone is dealing with similar personal and professional issues and can offer collaboration and support.
“Hard work is important, but also be focused and disciplined in your efforts to succeed,” she says. “Today’s no is a future yes.”
