Which Pittsburgh-Area School Districts Pay Teachers The Most?

Among the top 50 districts in western Pennsylvania, the highest average salary is $85,511 and the lowest is $65,188.

Since school districts in Pennsylvania are funded primarily by real estate taxes, the topic of teacher salaries is relevant to most taxpayers, whether or not they have a child in the school system.

Recently, the Pittsburgh Business Times and the American City Business Journals studied Pennsylvania Department of Education numbers (from the 2015-2016 academic year) to determine which school districts have the highest-paid teachers.

Among the top 50 districts in western Pennsylvania, the highest average salary is $85,511 and the lowest is $65,188.

The top 10 districts with their corresponding average teacher salaries are:

  2. Gateway: $82,543
     
  3. Indiana Area: $81,313
     
  4. Quaker Valley: $80,778
     
  5. ​Plum Borough: $80,213
     
  6. North Allegheny: $78,589
     
  7. Hampton: $77,521
     
  8. Chartiers VAlley: $77,039
     
  9. Pittsburgh Public Schools: $76,657
     
  10. Belle Vernon Area: $75,676
