Where — and When — Can You Recycle Your Old Glass Products?
The Pennsylvania Resources Council is bringing back its Traveling Glass Recycling Bin program in Allegheny County parks.
If you’re looking for a way to recycle your old glass, you’re in luck; for the second year in a row, the Pennsylvania Resources Council will offer its Traveling Glass Recycling Bin program in Allegheny County parks.
Beginning April 2, the bin will spend six days in each of the county parks, Saturdays through Thursdays. Visitors will be able to drop off their old glass products from 7 a.m. through sundown.
“Glass recycling continues to be an interest of residents in the county and with fewer curbside options available, we’re delighted to provide this service at our county parks,” County Executive Rich Fitzgerald said in a statement. “We know that glass bottles and jars are 100% recyclable and can be recycled endlessly without losing any quality, making the effort to put these items back into the recycling ecosystem even more important.”
Last year, residents recycled 10.2 tons, or 20,490 pounds, of glass. This reduced CO2 emissions by .29 tons, the county says.
Folks can drop off glass bottles, jars and jugs of all colors, with no color sorting necessary. Containers should be empty and rinsed, with lids and labels still on. Bags and boxes used to deliver glass will have to be discarded off-site.
